RENOVATION/DEMOLITION GUIDANCE

             

             

Before Beginning a Renovation or demolition, ask

IS ASBESTOS PRESENT?

UIf your answer is YES then:

 

       Remove all ACM prior to any renovation or demolition

       Hire Certified Contractor for Removal of

Friables

       Permit required for Friables if amount is

>10 Sq. Ft or >10 Ln. Ft.

       Follow Your Local/State Regulations for Asbestos Control Section 6 for all non-Friables

 

*NOTE* Removal is only required if there will be a disturbance of the ACM as a result of the Renovation or Demolition activity.

 

 

     UIf your answer is NO then:

DEFINITIONS:

Friable asbestos material means any material containing more than one percent asbestos, that, when dry, can be crumbled, pulverized, or reduced to powder by hand pressure.

 

Nonfriable asbestos material means any material containing more than one percent asbestos, that, when dry, cannot be crumbled, pulverized, or reduced to powder by hand pressure.

 

ACM- Asbestos-Containing Material As applied to demolition and renovations operations, this term also includes regulated asbestos-containing material waste and materials contaminated with asbestos including disposable equipment and clothing.

 

                             

             

             

             

             

             

             

             

             

             

             

             

             

*A licensed asbestos inspector should be hired to determine if asbestos is present.
